Tour and bands

Hiya. There are some new tour dates added to the tour page, which is good. Chicago and Baltimore, ‘sup? The Baltimore gig is interesting, because it means I have to drive 10 hours to Charleston the next day, then 10 hours back to Arlington the day after that. All those years in the Kiss Army have made me equal to this task.

In other news, I played with Rosyvelt (my other wife) and a band called Mouseheart Factor on Friday in Anacortes. It went really well, and if you get a chance to see Mouseheart Factor, you definitely should. They were essentially prog rock, if they’ll forgive me for calling it that.. kinda Muse, kinda Radiohead, kinda Yes. The band employs two keyboardists and some very sophisticated (proggy) songwriting, but they’re also seriously emotive and melodic.

Speaking of cool bands, I saw wesafari at a house party. They were yet another ridiculously talented local band that I’ve never heard of, that ought to be widely listened to and admired. Among the more instantly notable aspects of this band is that their drummer plays what sound like Bjork techno beats — which he does continuously — and the singer plays a Rhodes electric piano through an array of effects pedals. Lots of Line 6 delay modelers all around, and they know how to use them.

the graze @ kexp

I played on Seattle’s KEXP 90.3 FM last Saturday (the 19th). You can check it out for up to two weeks after the fact here — the date to select is 6/19/04, and the hour was 8:00pm.

About last night..

Thank you to everyone who came to the show last night at Chop Suey. By all measures, it was a complete and fantastic success, and probably the most fun show I ever played. Even with the heckler, which turned out to be one of the guys from Dorkweed (I’m looking at you, Forrest).

It’s a band

Yesterday was the first the graze practice featuring other members. That’s right! We’re like a band now, on occasion. Joining me are the (other) members of Rosyvelt — Jeffrey and Sam on bass and drums, respectively, as well as Julian from Pelusa on guitar. It was funner than heck, and next Tuesday we should be playing four or five songs together at the Chop Suey gig.

New news section

Every website needs a news section. The news: the old /lohan/ part of this website is now all moved to /thegraze/. Not that anyone read it ever, but it was up for three years or so. Ah, the memories. Other news: the Vera benefit at Megan and Andy’s house yesterday was a lot of fun, and I hope it generated some cash for Vera. Thanks to Theo from Water Kill the Sun for hooking me up with the gig. A strange thing: Andrea Maxand played yesterday as well, and we have two more dates together in the near future: next Tuesday the 15th at Chop Suey, and a month after that at the Rendezvous. Hopefully this is the start of a trend, as I would like to play all my shows with Andrea. Or with Dorkweed. Or Rosyvelt. Finally: Iowa Anvil should be available at Easy Street Records sometime this week.
