  • Upcoming Seattle show

Not counting my friend’s 40th birthday party last Saturday, it’s been a while since I’ve had a gig in town. This one’s a matinee, check it out:

    Sun Tunnels @ Comet 10/6/2012

Many thanks to Jim from Stuporhero for setting this up.

  • Open mics

I’m getting into open mics again, partly to prepare for the epic 2-hour show I’m doing in Union, WA in three weeks — not to mention Toorcamp the week after — and partly because it’s fun and you get to meet strangers. I played Shadowland in West Seattle last night, and Molly Maguire’s pub last Monday. I’m going to keep this going: Seamonster Lounge next Monday, Hopvine or Skylark the next Wednesday after. Let’s hang out.

If you’re into open mics this page is priceless: openmikes.org. It lists open mics all over the country. Many thanks to Paul Roub for setting it up. You used to have to look in a newspaper. One for every city. Stacks of them. So wasteful. Life has never been easier.

  • Anacortes double header

(eds. note: this is the sort of thing you can expect to see maybe once every other month if you sign my mailing list. Also this is a real event happening tomorrow in Anacortes.)

    Hello everyone,

I’m using a sports reference (double-header) to describe what’s happening Saturday. It means something happens, then some other thing, then everyone goes home. Nailed it!

Sun Tunnels (formerly the graze) is playing at the Brown Lantern tavern in Anacortes, Washington, Saturday (tomorrow) 1/28. Sorry for the late notice! Right after Sun Tunnels will be An Invitation to Love, meaning that I personally will be performing for two hours in a row. I don’t remember writing that many songs, but we timed it at rehearsal and there it is.

    Here’s a flyer:

Long-time listeners might recall the last time I played there was 2004. No doubt everyone in Anacortes remembers and will throw me a parade.

    Hope to see you there!

    Louis

PS: That pretty full-color photo was taken by our friend Josh at our Josephine show back in November. Thank you Josh. The Brown Lantern’s booker Erik made the flyer. Thank you Erik.

  • Benbow night 2 postscript

The show Friday was lots of fun, thanks to everyone who came out and stuck around, and to Sam for drumming. We’ll be there again this Friday in the form of An Invitation to Love.

One last thing about last week though: the Autonomics were added to the bill at the last minute and were pretty great. They’re three 21-year-olds living the dream, practicing 6 nights a week and playing everywhere. And it shows. They play “Shit Luck” as well as Modest Mouse themselves do and you should see them.

  • Night 2 of Benbow “residency” tonight

What an odd looking title that is. Let me explain.

The Benbow Room is a bar inside the Heartland Cafe in West Seattle (4210 SW Admiral Way). Rock shows are now happening in that bar now, and for some reason I will have played there three Fridays in a row.

My first show was last week, and Sam joined me on drums. We only played a few songs as it was a 5-band bill, but it was a fun night.

Tonight I’ll be playing longer, and hopefully Sam will be able to join me again. I’m opening for Andrew Norsworthy and James Germain and the Grey Gray Days. Here’s a flyer:

Then next week An Invitation to Love will be there, with Rosyvelt and the Chasers. I got a flyer for that one too:
